Well, speaking for my own field (bioscience) we have seen paradigm shifting breakthroughs in neuroimaging, neuromanipulation, gene manipulation, and viral prevention in the last three decades … ALL due to publically funded research. The ROI on this type of research is over 100%. The ROI on my biosciences index fund is hardly within an order of magnitude of that. And these are very sciences they wish to defund. Make it make economic sense.

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social Add to that all of my friends and colleagues in biotech start-ups live in fear of what will happen when they have to do all the basic reaearch and not just development (but will check out your podcast nonetheless)…
