Or the most horrifying realization: all the folks who say "It's been a record summer", and you have to invoke the Simpsons meme, "So far. Record summer *so far*" On average, every summer is expected (>50%) to be a new record. This will continue for your entire life, probably regardless of any changes to our energy sources.

@jripley@mastodon.social yes. the only thing that keeps me halfway sane is trying to do small things, seeing the positive in any small step that will help in the climate catastrophe and sharing via #ClimateDiary so I know I am not the only one

@jripley@mastodon.social My favourite reply to "it's so hot!" is "At least it's not as hot as next year."

@jripley@mastodon.social Heat? It’s unavoidable, and best case scenario, we soften the blow (but I think we won’t be able to even achieve that). What truly worries me now is lack of drinking water and lack of food. Data centers are accelerating that, and a reality where we won’t have access to any of those things is probably in our future and not too far away (a few decades maybe?). That will bring more death and war. It’s terrifying, but I don’t see people that worried. Fight for your right to water NOW! 🤷‍♂️
