@bweller@mstdn.social But is it really? I see this as just a ploy to keep the government from revoking AM licenses from existing holders. They are trying to prove how critical AM is to the public so the gov doesn’t sell off the band to tech bros. If I owned a successful AM station, I’d be concerned too. Besides, there are areas of the country where you can be well outside the range of an FM station but still receive AM from great distances. Fewer and fewer these days but they do exist. Personally, I love driving late at nite in solitude, with some wacky AM station tuned in. It’s a bit of nostalgia for me, warm and fuzzy.
