@ricci@discuss.systems it always has been more than a US problem, and is one reason why I'm a bit leery of people saying that they will simply move their conferences here to canada or to europe (which can be very difficult for people from certain countries to enter)
The denial rate for people who are from countries where IRCC requires a TRV visitor visa, rather than a eTA electronic travel authorization (which is most "western" countries) has always been much higher. Notably in 2024 IRCC changed things so that countries like Mexico which previously only needed an eTA, now require a TRV, and also revised things so that they are not automatically issuing 10 year multi entry TRV anymore

@cxiao@infosec.exchange yeah I think a lot of people who think that they can make things easier by switching countries are people who already have "powerful" passports that get them visa free travel to a lot of places, and don't understand what it's actually like for travel to be administratively difficult
