But it's occurred to me that in this bizarre world of wannabe #finance wizards, the halting and stilted performance might be interpreted as honesty. Everyone who's really into NFTs and other #crypto thingummies is likely to be sweaty and desperate in much the same way, preoccupied with amping up their enthusiasm for NFTs only because they feel they've no other avenue out of debt and misery. Everyone is lying. Everyone is trying to tell themselves they've got a sure bet. Everyone is trying to sound confident about things that, deep down inside, they must realize make very little sense.
So they cling to memes and catchphrases, like "blue chip"--a term cribbed from the more respectable world of stock-market gambling, which the crypto and NFT crowds are obsessed with imitating.

A "blue chip" #investment is supposed to be a sure bet, a license to print money, and the term derives from the conventions of gambling in poker: the blue chips (the literal discs of plastic) are treated as the most valuable. The #crypto "coins" and the NFT "tokens" and other such #blockchain gimmicks are intrinsically worthless or very nearly worthless just like cheap plastic poker chips, but they're shuffled about in a context in which they're meant to represent extreme wealth...or at least, the potential to be exchanged for extreme wealth. After all, these things are gonna EXPLODE all over the WORLD...right? (cont'd)
