@Remittancegirl@mstdn.social I spent a decade being chilled by how many people didn't care about Syria as it was playing out in real-time. (They stopped counting casualties for a long time.) One explanation is that most human beings can't comprehend numbers after a certain point, and it becomes too abstract to care. Another explanation is that we don't talk about things enough because we want to focus on how much better everything is now.
