I believe that the criticism regarding the analogies to human language had some merit. For (considering the very last paragraph) if these changes in clicking sounds ARE change of "vowels", that does appear to imply that the whales ARE conveying a different message (for where in human language does an entirely different vowel mean the same thing)?
