@erkhyan@yiff.life Tbh in Poland technically every phone owner was able to connect their modem to the landline and use the internet access via the countrywide phone number 0202122. It was in 1996.

I’ve mentioned it before, but for example, less than a third of the population of Madagascar has internet access in 2026, and the vast majority of those users only have access to Meta’s social networks. I do not think “retvrn to those blessed years when only 0.01% of the population had internet access” sounds quite attractive as a solution to me.

@erkhyan@yiff.life I'm pretty sure some people in Bulgaria had dial up modems around 1995-1996, so it's not quite accurate.
