The California state government and its public universities are driving me batty! The department of HCAI awarded me a scholarship, but needs a signature from the university that says I am registered to start this fall. But the university says they can't sign the document because it says "currently enrolled" rather than "scheduled to be enrolled." HCAI says they won't issue the scholarship payment for my tuition because they don't have the scholarship. These are both institutions with the California state government. And yet they can't resolve this between themselves? They can't communicate ahead of time about this? They can't actually provide the service they are entrusted from the public to provide because...a word on a form and a signature? I have already called and pushed with both institutions, gone in person, as well as chains of emails for a week now. I have now also roped in faculty from my department. If this doesn't work within a day or so, I am going to reach out to my state senator, the state secretary of education, and every other political office I can think to bug. Here I thought I could pay my tuition at least and afford to go to school. Instead, at this rate, it feels like we're going to have to pay the whole damn thing out of pocket or withdraw from the program. And they wonder why we have a shortage of mental healthcare providers. Whatever the result of all this is, I am still going to write to my state representative and state senator about this, because this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed in how the California government functions.
