Just for the record: I do not accept the framing that the AI “did this by itself”. It’s a computer that did what its programmers gave it the abilities to do, whether they understood their own instructions or not. The humans at OpenAI are 100% responsible, but it’s beneficial for them if we buy into this notion that the AI is an entity that could somehow share in the culpability.
