The standard one is apparently a metre wide, and full, weighs literally a tonne. (well, just over, the water weighs a tonne)
You can get smaller sizes, I believe.

Blue barrels are 205l, and easy to move, but not space efficient. I was lucky to blag a couple of used 500l drinking water tanks that were ex civil engineering site.
