No way would today's elite sports stars do that. They might ruin their hair, or manicures.

There was a weightlifting event, and Hunt got a lift disallowed because he hadn't straightened his arms, and then he proceeded to demonstrate that it was impossible for him to straighten his arms any more than he had. (He got the lift counted, iirc.)
