How about a nice can of Irn-Bru, Americans, how'd you like the taste of fruity rust Have a pear drop after, it's a hard candy that tastes like acetone

@ifixcoinops@retro.social Look, a colleague of mine brought djungelvrål back from a trip to Sweden and I ate some and survived, so I'm not scared of your British weird foods. (Djungelvrål is salt licorice, and the salt in question is ammonium chloride, and yes, you can absolutely taste the ammonia. In fact, it basically drowns out the thermonuclear licorice flavor which would otherwise be overwhelming. A thoroughly unpleasant eating experience, 9/10 on the "why would you put this in your mouth" scale, after only ultra-hot peppers.)

I wish there were a dandelion & burdock squeezy cordial that I could bring back to America to let my friends taste, but that only really comes in fizzy cans that I don't wanna pack in a suitcase The closest thing America has is root beer, and it's not *very* close. More like a second cousin than a sibling

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I think the peardrop flavouring *is* isoamyl acetate (I learned this from the instruction manual of a Chinese space heater, which warned against using such things as benzine or "banana oil" to clean the casing, and banana oil is a mix of isoamyl acetate and spiritus (denatured ethanol)

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I tried that Irn-Bru stuff, because they drink it a lot in the Val Mcdermid books I was reading. Ick.
