@mxchara@seattle.pink @vantablack@cyberpunk.lol I fear that folk are becoming overwhelmed, there's now two active warzones generating crowdfunding appeals and others from various parts of Global South, and unlike other social networks most of Fedi doesn't suppress this kind of traffic.
Then all the middle aged folk who were in fairly good tech jobs in USA (and may have contributed to mutual aid appeals) are themselves being laid off due to AI hype etc.
What I find most fucked up is compared to my youth (admittedly a few decades ago) everything seems harder for younger folk - in 90s/00s there was always some kind of relatively easy job with a fair bit of slack time (especially in office admin and in person tech support), and those with talents (which is a whole lot of people on Fedi) were sometimes able to even make a living doing something they enjoy, there were loads of independent record shops, bookshops, places selling art and fashion - all this cool stuff seems to have been "optimised out" of todays society..

@vfrmedia@cyberpunk.lol @vantablack@cyberpunk.lol generosity is a fundamental virtue. it shouldn't be wrong to appeal to generosity...but I feel like maybe one must at least try to offer something in exchange for the begging. I've been avoiding doing so myself even though I'm broke in hopes of figuring out something that would sweeten the deal, so to speak. some small creative thing perhaps
