I do not understand "fans" who judge stories in sprawling, shared universes that have grown and changed over decades primarily by how consistent the details of that new story are with (somehow) every other story told over time (including the established stories that already contradicted each other).
This may be a factor in why I've left basically every fandom I used to participate in, including stuff I still like to read/watch/whatever.

Connecting things can be fun! But when they don't line up exactly (again: massive shared setting and characters built up over multiple generations of writers, artists, actors, special effects, etc), that shouldn't get in the way of what might be fun about the story itself.
