@lmgenealogy@mstdn.ca I didn’t know that. I guess it’s like baseball. Before free agency, rivalries prompted fistfights between players. Babe Ruth got into many brawls. Now, they’re all friends. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. The old times seem like more than just a bygone era.

@colin@mastodon.colincogle.name It's exactly like baseball (or any other major sport). Players are traded around by the owners of teams, so the people they play against this year might be their teammates next year. Which must be hard on them as individuals, because it must involve a lot of life disruption. But I'm sure it does contribute to camaraderie when they all gather at a major tournament.
