Look at it this way : Elon doesn't lose anything, he will not remove the data collection, its simply that he wants to be transparent, however as mentionned in the Article it isn't the first time.
The main thing i'm worrying about is if Elon Musk isn't thinking about someone taking his code and doing an Alternative to X. Because open source means viewable and usable code.

@mr_Elma@mastodon.social IMHO there are two options: - it will not be fully #OpenSource, including his "funky" algos - it will be fully OpenSource and there's something for him to get from it #Musk is not the type of person to do this out of altruism he did the same when opensourcing the Tesla's patents... The objective was not to be nice for the environment by accelerating the development of EVs worldwide... This allowed him to increase velocity in development and to set the market standard...
