In much more interesting news, however, I'm happy to find that a simple bluetooth dongle immediately allowed me to connect my preferred keyboard and mouse to The New PC without needing to install any drivers that would no doubt require admin approval. The same with a wifi dongle allowing me to connect it to the same network as my phone so I *should* be able to file share.

My poking and prodding at Windows has highlighted some useful information. Most of the things I like to use can be installed via winget. Is that safe and secure? I assume so, given that the system allows it. Feishin, the app I use to connect to my Navidrome sever works flawlessly, as does Freetube, so I don't have to tolerate YouTube's atrocious website. SSH works perfectly fine from Windows > Other Device, but not in the other direction, because I can't alter the firewall. SSH-FS, however, cannot be installed without admin permission. So that's probably a no-go, for the time being at least. Not being able to alter the firewall means I can't use Deskflow to control my MacBook from Windows. The portable version of Deskflow works just fine, but the Mac can't see the server because I can't open the port. I'll put that one on the list of things to raise along with SSH-FS, because they're useful tools. scrcpy does work though, meaning I can control the Android tablet I have here, so that's something, though not a tool I use all that often. Mostly, it's just nice to know that there are workarounds that fit within what I'm being allowed. I'd like to be able to enable Tailscale, because I've gotten used to being able to use my tailnet DNS to connect stuff, but that's almost certainly going to be a massive no. Which is probably fair enough.
