Monsterdon is doing Waterworld now, but I won't use the hashtag, since this is a tangent. Maybe I am remembering wrong, and maybe someone who visited Universal Studios Japan when it first opened can correct me, but I seem to remember that both the Waterworld and Jaws attractions were played "straight" originally. Today, both are played 80% for laughs. The Jaws attraction was probably too scary for kids when played straight, and not enough visitors knew the Waterworld movie to get into the story.
