I wish Mastodon apps would redesign their UI to deprioritise the Like button and emphasise the Boost button. They are n͟o͟t͟ of equal importance in social media that does not have an algorithm. #mastodon

@davidnjoku@mastodon.world I have the opposite view. "Liking" something has an important role to play... it's a form of back-channelling. Somebody replies to something you've said and you can click on the "Like" (favourite) button to acknowledge that you have read it. You're signalling that you've taken on board what the other person said. Sure, "boosting" is about creating more visibility, but I think that the 'Like' button is about being human. As such, it de-centres all the "social media" guff. In reality, boosting and "faving" are completely different things and I don't think that they should be ranked as if they were somehow comparable.

@davidnjoku@mastodon.world But yeah, if all you're concerned about is "reach", prioritising "boost" is the way to go about it.
