For human civilization to survive this century, human civilization is going to have to condense its patterns of settlement into #urbanism. There is simply no rational way to debate this fact. Urban living is by far and away the most efficient way of living.
Human civilizations of the past have abandoned settlements and infrastructure that was no longer supportable, and we will be no different.
How are we going to pay for this? How did we pay for (looks around) any of what we already have?

Yes, some people will not want to do this. I really have no sympathy for this point of view. If you want to live outside the city, or town, outside of a dense settlement, away from other people, you have every right to do so, and I will not stop you. What you do not have, is a right to demand public subsidy your choice of lifestyle with investments of public wealth in infrastructure, policing, education, and everything else. This is what Liberty means, after all. Fly, be free.
