https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/19/opinion/democrats-capitalism-socialism.html Do you know what centrists and opinionated people who toe the line especially don't like about people who try to think on their own? Especially here in #Oregon? It's when independents such as myself start criticizing old men such as E.J. Dionne at the New York Times who writes garbage such as this article. It's a whole lot of writing... about not much at all. This washed-up but authentic centrist Democrat who has real history with making faux predictions about progressive politics does not know what's going on today. That's actually what it is about E.J. He is pretty much out of step with these times. Dionne's whole journalistic history shows someone who functions or thinks just like a typical politico. He makes too many compromises in his own thinking and through his writing tells the world that there will be no political solution until, lo and behold, we have that kumbaya moment or realization (the native peoples from the southeastern USA originated the kumbaya saying) ... and then Glory Be — the political center somehow continues to hold. E.J. Dionne writes little statements such as: '' “leftier than thou” entreaties. '' What are entreaties? Are those attempts by the left at holding the peace while the fascists and deadbeats who are still in office run all over this Jah-forsaken country? Huh. Sounds like the Democrats have made some okay agreements with the hardliners on the right in spite of the usual electoral viability challenges facing any party. So, right there... I do absolutely agree with E.J. Dionne. We are in a tight spot. We have no real leaders. The very worst sort of idiots have taken over for the time being. Actually, most of what Dionne has written in that piece is fine. I feel like a true critic or just a simple reactionary today who has one important contribution: my voice. Dionne and I are identical in that way. I am just the one who doesn't get paid to do what I'm now doing. There is where I don't see eye-to-eye with the gray-haired Baby Boomer. I have some major differences of opinion with just about everybody in that age range and also I have a few issues with Generation X. Easy does it, America. I think that both sides understand what's at work. The GOP sold its soul to the Trump Machine. Dionne is perfectly clear on this one point. If America goes #SouthKorea (crowd fund a coup against Donald Trump) that means that we will need to have our own military come to the US Capitol and force out the insurrectionist in the White House. South Korea is the exception. They got rid of their asshole of a prime minister or leader. America is now /the/ policy outlier who's foul deeds are known to every nation on this planet. Even the meanest and bitchiest Trump supporters know this to be true. '' What’s wrong with Democrats arguing about the relative merits of capitalism and socialism? Such polemics clearly distract from their need to stay focused on economic discontent and Mr. Trump’s corrupt abuses of power '' Polemics? That is a Grecian word. Hmm. I just looked it up and it's a word that refers to the art of making controversy and encouraging debate at the same time. ⬆️ That definition for polemics is my own improvised definition. By Dionne's rationale, Democrats must continue to keep the center intact. There is no other mission. By not writing anything new in his article, E.J. Dionne, who is one of the more long-term authentic and also credible opinion writers at the NY Times just sold his soul... to the Democratic Party's noise machine. That's harmless. Too bad that half the old people and crazy Trump supporters in this country of opinions and ideas all hate our guts with a passion. P.S. — Has anyone seen the crazy Peter Thiel anywhere recently or is that maverick billionaire now in seclusion? Who does Thiel think he is now... Howard Hughes? That's my punchline.
