@joepie91@fedi.slightly.tech Every tech cycle comes with its own hype cycle, which lately is mega amplified by social media.
Doesn't help there are absolutely massive amounts of money involved & at stake, so there is a real financial incentive to keep it going.
That being said, I personally find LLM a helpful tool for development and it is of great use to me. But that's ultimately my perspective & use-case.

@ilia@phpc.social Sure, there have been lots of hype cycles. I have gone through - and spoken out against - many of them myself. You may even have read some of my articles about it. This is not just another hype cycle, and it doesn't just so happen to be amplified "by social media". The way generative AI has been marketed and propagandized is intentional, and framing it as "it's just a hype cycle amplified by social media" relieves the people behind it from responsibility, by portraying it as some natural occurrence. It is not. The people doing this have names and faces, and they know exactly what they're doing.
