People outside the Windows ecosystem could apply this and not worry about vulnerabilities in the Windows ecosystem, without Windows users having to worry about their recovery images becoming unbootable

@mjg59@nondeterministic.computer Given the broader tech trend towards firmware-enforced device integrity, enshittification, and laissez-faire attitudes towards regulation of industry consolidation and monopolization, I'm more than a little concerned that Microsoft's (mostly) benign custodianship of UEFI on ehalf of their direct competitors could quickly sour in the longer term. It doesn't take much imagination to see the anti-competitive stuff happening in the Android space (often with the active encouragement of the EU) and think about the implications to PC firmware.
