I'm a middle-aged straight man, and I've been a hell of a lot happier in my life because I'm not concerned over whether Rocket Slime was mature or manly enough for me to play it. The entire "bright and colorful games are immature" cohort has done immense damage to the gaming hobby for decades, and needs to either get therapy or walk into the sea. (Rocket Slime is a great game.)

@GamesMissed@mastodon.social @outofprintarchive@retro.pizza I find it curious how perception of what's proper "grown up light entertainment" has changed over the years. I'm 46 myself, I play everything possible and consider a lot of games having more engaging stories than TV-series, yet again and again I come across the mentality of "oh you play computer games? That's so childish" while binging a TV series would be perfectly fine. But thinking back, there was a time when reading a book about anything else than about some heavy topic or fine arts would have been considered childish. Nowdays people would consider any kind of book reading as some kind of a sign of superior intellect or something, no matter if you'd be reading the Famous Five or something. And watching TV when it was first getting popularized was total brain rot with absolutely no redeeming qualities. I hope it'll be easier for the next generation to just say they're enjoying an adventure video game on their free time without being judged as somehow mentally lacking.
