Oh dear, the national railcard thing again! This gives existing regular users a discount - basically an £82 handout to each existing user - without lowering fares shown to non-users - so generates relatively little extra revenue or travel.   • The Swiss are a good example: 1. They think of a sensible fare between each station. 2. Then they double it. 3. Then they give 97% of Swiss citizens a national railcard that halves it back to the number they first thought of. 4. Then they have to invent a plethora of products for e.g. tourists.
