The Swiss are a good example: 1. They think of a sensible fare between each station. 2. Then they double it. 3. Then they give 97% of Swiss citizens a national railcard that halves it back to the number they first thought of. 4. Then they have to invent a plethora of products for e.g. tourists.

  • Moral? Don’t hide your ‘best price’ behind railcards. Show it up front! For example, I’d abolish the Family Railcard and simply make accompanied kids free for everyone (as Germans & Austrians do).
