got some bodge wires attached, went to grab a usb cable to splice onto them
first one I cut open was power-only
second one was also power-only
so was the third one
on the FOURTH attempt I finally found one that had all four wires in it
the good news is they have all been cut up and I will no longer attempt to use them

@emily@fedi.uni.horse most Amazon Basics cables I cut open are red=GND, black=VBUS ; Fried some stuff that way...
