@tychotithonus@infosec.exchange this would be appropriate for an em-dash. From Wikipedia:
The em dash is used in several ways. … It can also show an abrupt change in thought (or an interruption in speech) or be used where a full stop (period) is too strong and a comma is too weak, similar to that of a semicolon.

@tychotithonus@infosec.exchange I think you and I would argue that a comma is more appropriate, the author is trying to suggest that the Supreme Court’s change is unexpected enough that the sentence is changing in an unexpected way, too.
