20% of the co2 stays in the upper layers of the atmosphere for up to 3000 years and there is a whole industry trying to convince private jets users that they can offset that by managing a forest for 10 years. It's impossible, you cannot guarantee management of a forest over a time period longer than capitalism and all the ancient empires combined. Or that it won't burn in a wildfire and release all of its carbon. Or that the land purchased for the purpose of offsetting can still grow trees.
