I love the non-standard disclaimer that I just happen to notice on the copyright page of Tom's Crossing, by Mark Z. Danielewski: "This abridgment is a work of fiction. And because it is shattered, scattered, recollected, and rearranged, and at times uniquely devised, and because fiction's province is the imagination and thus concerned with the argument of empathy over representation, any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales, no matter how familiar, should be considered coincidences born out of the reader's keen and original mind."
