@syhr@mastodon.art @natz_b@mastodon.social The only effective slug control I've found after many years of struggling with them is a product called Strulch. It's a hay based mulch that comes in a big bag and smells gorgeous! Spread thickly around plants. Alternatively, pick them off (if you have the patience) and put them out for the birds. The more you remove the less you'll get - particularly if you can find their nighttime hiding places - which will be damp and dark

@natz_b@mastodon.social also to answer your question: I think, as a first step, flowers would be good to encourage pollinators, because there's no wildlife whatsoever near my house. What do you think?

It will poison the soil, including plants and insects, for years - "salting the earth" was a thing for invading armies in ancient times for a good reason in that it prevented crops from growing and starved the population into submission! In a small area like that you can remove unwanted plants by hand . I will happily use chemicals on my allotment but for smaller areas it's a waste of money See https://www.rhs.org.uk/prevention-protection/weeds-non-chemical-control Weedol Path & Gravel - Glyphosate Free would do the trick if you want to use a biocide
