Back in the 80s, when Friday long lunches were still a thing. My work place deemed that if you weren't back by 3pm, that you'd taken the afternoon off. On the grounds you'd do more damage than good.
Also, the Friday/last work day before long weekends, especially Christmas and Easter, there was a change moratorium.

@gnoll110@ruby.social yup I remember sharing several bottles of wine at lunch with a colleague and going back to do an OS upgrade in the evening, we ran into several issues, unrelated to our alcohol consumption and Monday morning after no sleep we finished the upgrade with only one issue remaining which we developed a work around for, we logged a case and were told congratulations on being the first person in the Southern Hemisphere to do a Digital Unix Tru64 5.0 upgrade…
