I'd seen the BBC article but this one has a photo of the contraband that I had not seen!
Dude really tried to say he wanted to keep all of these ants for "personal use" WOW.
I think some of those test tubes have multiple cotton balls so they can hold more than one queen! The greed sickens me!
Look at all those ants!
I'm exasperated.

@HappytoBe@mastodon.social I think these were destined for the Chinese pet trade, but possibly Europe too. Queens like this sell for $50 to $200 so you can understand why people think this is a good idea. Those of us who keep ants need to be more responsible about buying queens. Ideally just do not buy them at all. Keep local ants.
