The entire reason we standardized time, from calendars to clocks, was because we wanted to interact with people who were farther and farther away. If I mail you a letter in the spring and invite you to visit me in the fall, we need to have the same idea of when that will be. Even if you are on the other side of the equator. As the turnaround on communications has gotten shorter, synchronization has had to improve to accommodate it. Yet, there are still issues across time zones.
