@camertron@ruby.social *Even* if I totally thought that getting generators to help me was worthwhile, I don't understand that in the slightest. Did they secretly hate writing code all these years, and now thank god it's all over? I don't get that mindset at all. I write code because I *enjoy* writing code. I would do it even if no one paid me—in fact I do that all the time! 😅

@jaredwhite@indieweb.social It's all about the speed of development, which I understand to some degree (I'm told cocaine also makes you go pretty fast 😏) It is genuinely shocking tho how many folks are willing not only to endorse all the negative second-order effects of gen AI, but also happily sign away their own freedom. It makes me feel like we learned nothing from the social media era.

@jaredwhite@indieweb.social @camertron@ruby.social for some coding is the means to an end and the joy is ultimately in creating things. For others the coding itself is the source of joy and they are not really interested in a finished product. I know programmers of both sorts.

@camertron@ruby.social @jaredwhite@indieweb.social I love hank green but in a recent video he was talking about how code was a bottleneck it isn’t really now and he said something like “all code has to be created because we really needed it” someone has never seen what programmers are like lol to be clear I agreed for the most part with the video and just think that he was very much overselling the ability and effect of le slop machines
