Okay so in the past week i had an opportunity to install Windows 11 in Polish twice and dear fucking god Microsoft had a legacy of basically establishing computer-related terminology in Polish because otherwise it wouldn't exist in common language – all through Windows localization into Polish and it was actually pretty good, sure some weird phrasing happened here and there but overall it was solid and now Microsoft fully embraces machine translations everywhere, not only on their websites (these translations are atrocious) but in Windows as well Windows 11 installation wizard alone – and that is the first interaction with the OS for most users – is full of very obviously missing context and weird unnatural phrasing System UI is not better, only with older pre-W11 strings being overall good They robbed themselves of that legacy and honestly laughing at crappy localization of Linux software is no longer justified, Windows is arguably even worse now
