The thing that astounds me about this story is the response to it. It’s just amazing the lengths people will go to believe in the inherent goodness of the white dude, and then dramatic incredulity that follows him doing the things everyone knew he was gonna do. Like all the dramatic “I thought he was a good guy” bullshit people post about him is just so tiring.

Linus Torvalds has never been a good guy. This is who he always was. This is not a fucking surprise. The man was sending the most wretched and hateful messages to women programmers in the 90s when all they wanted to do was help. I know, I’m one of them. The fact that people react to this shit with surprise is just… what the fuck?
