@harriehq oh do I feel what you are saying here in a deep and profound way. When I was 30 I built a small home studio around a synth, an old Mac and a decent audio interface. I had a lovely friend who was my musical creative partner and it felt amazing. For nearly a year we both worked on things and then it all fell apart when I migrated to New Zealand (I had many reasons). When I was in my mid 30's I felt I had to pursue my 'career path' of being a visual effect freelancer, and music became something I listened to and I only dabbled. In my 40's I burnt out on the film industry (hard) and decided to try something totally different: I started a brewery with my wife and for the past 16 years we have tried to get it to be a positive and successful experience. I did not know about fast moving consumer goods, cash flow, human resources, and a lot of other things. Somehow we are still going, but gods is it ever touch. My point is that 5 years ago in my mid-50's (this is long) 1/- 🧵

@harriehq I realised that if I did not start to actively start making music that I never would and I would massively regret not trying to do so. And I needed to get out of my own way and start. And for the longest time I have known that to do the work is the important part. Not being "good" at a thing is a sign of not having done it much. Do it a lot and you might start to feel like you have some experience. I like to think of this as "enjoying doing something badly" and to ignore the people who are not helpful with their criticism (this mostly comes from myself). As I read your reply I found myself realising that most of the time I find myself petitioning at the Gateway to Creativity to be allowed in, only to realise that there is no door and it is open to all who would enter. I hope you will make the art, write the words, and sing them. I am not someone who thinks in music, but when the flow state arrives it is amazing. Wishing you courage and the stubbornness to create.
