@substandard@chaosfem.tw I just remembered one more thing. You've probably got it covered since you mentioned writing practice, but I think it's really important that you do writing as well as reading/listening. If you can speak Japanese with someone, so much the better, but even if not, it really pays to practise writing. So that means, for example, paying attention to proper stroke order and how your characters look (size, balance and so on). It's probably best not to do it the way the Japanese do (which involves a lot of repetition), but just make sure you take time occasionally to write stuff out so that that skill develops more or less at the same pace that the other skills do.
On that, there's a thing in Japan called "waapuro-baka" or "word-processing idiot" (ワープロ馬鹿) which describes Japanese people who have lost their ability to write from memory thanks to over-reliance on automatic conversion.
So just aim for somewhere between endless repetitive writing exercises and becoming a waapuro baka.

@muddle@infosec.exchange I am absolutely a ワープロバカ! 😅 Duolingo had occasional writing exercises recently, and it would be good for me to do more of that.
