@nedbat@hachyderm.io I have many thoughts about this: 1. I fully agree with you that this is not at all persuasive as an argument. 2. I spend an absolutely inordinate amount of time making more serious, considered, balanced arguments. If anyone reading along at home has not yet seen https://blog.glyph.im/tag/ai.html I'd encourage them to go there to get something more thoughtful. 🧵

@nedbat@hachyderm.io @glyph@mastodon.social the problem many of us have with the use of AI* has nothing to do with the quality of the artifact it produces. Here's a drastic analogy: I don't care about the quality of clothes produced from cotton harvested with slave labor. AI is not slavery, of course, but the argument is the same: I don't want to use the product of an immoral technology. *) AI, as in billionaire-controlled LLMs built on mass resource extraction with complete disregard of adverse effects.
