PHAC says the thing on their website but you gotta know to go look at their website and who thinks of that? https://toronto.citynews.ca/2026/07/15/do-masks-help-what-about-air-conditioning-what-to-know-about-wildfire-smoke-protection/

It was weird to see almost every kind of local bird coming to the backyard today. We had sparrows, robins, starlings, a house finch, and a mourning dove dinosaur-hopping around and craning their necks to look around in between poking for food. At about the same time I spied the rat nervously scrambling around the driveway, there were a few different varieties of birds and a couple of squirrels. I was like “this is not the day for this, you guys” and “I need to stop looking out the window.”

@thatkatharine@ohai.social One time we got an especially bad dust storm, and the Pm10 was above 1000 ( pm 2.5 was a couple hundred or so) on most of the island. I had to go to the post office, so I wore an ffp3 mask. Other people outside the post office... decided that the air they were breathing in would be enhanced by smoking a cigarette
