@nycki@critters.gay something like this but more informal ("so weird it couldn't really be what they think" or such) was also useful for introducing kid to the idea of sarcasm also, it helps explain who you can/can't safely be sarcastic with about what topics. people who have no idea what you really think may not be sure whether something that sounds like a stretch is saracastic or what you sincerely mean! and the less you know them, the less you know about what they know about you or how they handle sarcasm for what it's worth it can be exhaustig in complex environments (company where you interact with lots of people in different amounts, with differing norms of formal vs. informal), even for folks not diagnosed as having a medically-recognized form of spiciness

@nycki@critters.gay also, communicating primarily over chat reminds me of the 'situational disability' framework: it's a bit a dose of neurospiciness for all that is, visual/auditory cues aren't there, so one has to read harder, or guess, at all the things we normally put in a bucket called 'tone.' (otoh, the work of producing/parsing cues goes away too. i think most people find meetings all day tiring partly for that reason.) there are some tools to send signals, like writing style and emoji, but they're lower bandwidth
