Temperature drops with altitude, and wings require an atmosphere. So Icarus couldn’t fly too close to the sun and have the wax melt. At best he would get a bit colder and it would be harder to breathe. Because come on he would not get that high up now would he? Daedalus caused Icarus death and then covered it up, in a case of ancient enshitification and planned obsolescence.
