“Subversives,” Lowest of the Low cover. This prolific, still frequently performing band has been a kind of soundtrack to my adulthood. Their songs have associations with friends no longer in my life, joyful, sing-along concerts in some of my favourite Toronto venues, and hundreds of instances of me covering their stuff in the subway. I don’t know why but this little song has become the first song I play every single time I busk, to the point where it has the value of ritual.
