This park is spectacular. You have to admire the patience and dedication of the generations of landscapers that have tended to it. You have to have a vision that spans decades in order to be able to lay out all these paths, the trees, the plants, and imagine what the sightlines and the shade is going to be like years from now when it has all grown.

The phrase “Garden of delights” was tailor-made for places like this. Full of turns, and every turn something new and surprising. An amazing experience. I have plenty left to see, as I had a limited amount of time, and I very much want to go back. If you have a D-ticket, or an interrail, and happen to be in the Leipzig or Dessau area, I can highly recommend this as a day trip. Wear a hat, or use a parasol, and plenty of sunscreen. It’s pretty accessible, though not all of it is wheelchair-friendly, and you cannot cycle through it. And best of all: it’s entirely 100% free. There are buildings on the grounds that charge access, but the gardens themselves are free, and very extensive. Come along, stroll through the light and shade, listen to the birds, sit on the many, many, benches and take in the beauty and solace.
