I have it setup with a toggle to enable home row mods, and with that on the regular mod keys are a momentary toggle to a layer that is entirely filled with KC_NO.
So, I am forced to do it. So far it isn't bad, but I am going to have to learn to be a bit more precise with some timings....

I'm leaning towards a 4x6 layout, with a single thumb key. Space on the left and enter on the right. This means I still have to find a solution for a few keys (-=[]) but I suppose putting those on another layer with a home row mod to activate it isn't terrible.
