I'm leaning towards a 4x6 layout, with a single thumb key. Space on the left and enter on the right.
This means I still have to find a solution for a few keys (-=[]) but I suppose putting those on another layer with a home row mod to activate it isn't terrible.

Plus, if I stick to the home row mod setup I have now I will have shift keys that I won't need...
