I think that the emergence of drones and unmanned ground robots have quite a different effect on the future than what is normally portrayed and discussed. It’s not a replacement for a high tech modern military. Air superiority and ballistic missiles with logical target priority will still be far more effective (anyone who has that and is loosing is loosing on purpose). What it will become is a way to terrorize and kill civilians, when one side knocks the other out, or one side simply have far superior production, waging war without casualties *on your own side* will be far more accepted. Imagine no draft and no ~360k casualties, would local opinion have changed in the U.S. for the drawn out Vietnam War? They did figure out cutting draft made it easier (in the other disasters have followed), but if they cut causalities they could go on forever. Been thinking about it and felt that I wanted to mention it. I don’t know how many have thought of it. It really bothers me.
