@TerminalTilt@social.terminaltilt.com though maybe the deck builder IS the natural result of trying to make rpg combat “more interesting.” fundamentally just changing what’s available to do on each turn, so you have a wider possibility space while narrowing each turn’s choices.
… but I have several ideas for NOT doing it this way, which I guess I need to try out! just wondering if anybody’s already made what I’m looking for

@splendorr@mastodon.social I'm not a big fan of the genre, but Vampire Crawlers (made by the creator of Vampire Survivors) was pretty fun. Its more RPG than you were looking for I think, though. Slay the Spire was fun, too.
